Han Zheng Meets U.S. Business Leaders to Strengthen China-U.S. Ties

Chinese Vice President Han Zheng expressed hope on Sunday that U.S. companies will continue to invest and establish a strong presence in China, playing an active role in fostering the stable and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.

Han made these remarks during a meeting with representatives from the U.S. business community, including members of the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, in Washington, D.C. Han is attending the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday as Chinese President Xi Jinping’s special representative.

During the meeting, Han highlighted the important common understandings reached between President Xi and President-elect Trump regarding the future development of China-U.S. relations during a recent phone conversation. He emphasized that both countries share broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation.

“Getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and keeping it growing steadily serves the common well-being of the peoples of the two countries and meets the expectations of the international community,” Han stated.

He acknowledged the pivotal role of the U.S. business community as a backbone in China-U.S. relations, describing them as participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, as well as China’s reform and opening-up efforts.

Han assured that China would continue to advance its reform and opening-up policies and strive to improve its business environment, welcoming ongoing investment from U.S. companies.

Representatives from the U.S. business community responded positively, expressing optimism about China’s economic prospects and opportunities for development. They supported strengthening dialogue and communication to advance bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.

“As the world’s two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the U.S. and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards a constructive and stable way to coexist,” they remarked.

Later that day, Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Han welcomed Tesla’s involvement in China’s market, encouraging the company to seize opportunities and contribute to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations.

Musk expressed readiness to deepen investment and cooperation with China, aiming to play an active role in enhancing economic and trade exchanges between the two countries.
