President Xi Jinping Chairs CPC Leadership Meeting to Propel High-Quality Development

President Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a pivotal meeting on Monday with the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. The gathering focused on reviewing comprehensive reports and opinions aimed at steering the nation’s high-quality development and ecological conservation efforts.

The meeting delved into a report from the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee following discussions on the work reports submitted by the leading Party members’ groups of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People’s Court (SPC), and the Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP). Additionally, the work report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee was reviewed.

One of the key highlights was the examination of opinions on comprehensively promoting ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. The Yellow River, often referred to as the “Mother River” of China, holds significant cultural and ecological importance, and its protection is vital for sustainable development.

The meeting fully acknowledged the achievements of the leading Party members’ groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. Emphasizing the importance of action and reform, the meeting urged these groups to prioritize effective implementation, pool resources to advance reforms, and contribute to the nation’s high-quality development and the realization of Chinese modernization.

The Secretariat was called upon to enhance its political capabilities, strengthen self-governance, and diligently accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.

Regarding the ecological protection of the Yellow River Basin, the meeting highlighted the significance of fully enforcing the Yellow River Protection Law. Efforts are to be made to systematically enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.

The meeting also stressed the necessity of ensuring the safety of crucial dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure along the Yellow River. It called for strengthening the synergy between the Yellow River’s high-quality development and the broader strategies of large-scale development in the western region and the rise of the central region. Furthermore, it emphasized improving the holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage and promoting the integration of culture and tourism development in the area.
