Over a week has passed since a powerful magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. As resettlement and reconstruction efforts continue, stories of resilience and community support are emerging from the affected areas.
In Cuo’ang Village, Quluo Town, firefighters from the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have taken on an unexpected role. Beyond their duties of ensuring safety and aiding recovery, they have become cooks, preparing meals for the villagers affected by the quake.
Under temporary shelters, the aroma of freshly cooked food fills the air, bringing comfort to residents who have endured immense hardship. The firefighters diligently chop vegetables, stir steaming pots, and serve hearty dishes, providing not just nutrition but also a sense of normalcy and care.
One local resident expressed heartfelt gratitude, saying, “Their support means so much to us during this difficult time.” The collaborative efforts between the firefighters and villagers highlight the strength and unity within the community.
As rebuilding continues, such acts of kindness play a crucial role in healing and restoring hope among the people of Xizang.
