Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with representatives of the U.S. business community in Washington D.C. on Sunday, emphasizing the importance of strengthening economic ties between China and the United States. The meeting included members from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
Han Zheng, serving as President Xi Jinping’s special representative, is in the U.S. capital to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday. During the meeting, Han expressed hope that U.S. companies will continue to invest and establish themselves in China, playing an active role as a bridge between the two nations and contributing to the steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.
Han highlighted the recent phone call between President Xi and President-elect Trump, noting that the two leaders reached important common understandings regarding the future of bilateral relations. “China and the United States share broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation,” Han said. “Getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and keeping it growing steadily serves the common well-being of the peoples of the two countries and meets the expectation of the international community.”
He acknowledged the significant role of the U.S. business community in China-U.S. relations, describing them as participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, as well as China’s reform and opening-up efforts. Han assured that China will unswervingly advance its reform and opening-up initiatives and continue to improve its business environment.
Representatives of the U.S. business community expressed optimism about China’s economic prospects and development opportunities. They welcomed the positive message sent by the phone conversation between Trump and Xi, stating that as the world’s two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the United States and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards a constructive and stable coexistence. They voiced support for strengthening dialogue and communication to advance bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.
In addition to the meeting with business leaders, Han Zheng also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Sunday. Han welcomed U.S. companies like Tesla to seize opportunities in China and share in the fruits of China’s development. He encouraged greater contributions to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations. Musk expressed his eagerness to deepen investment and cooperation with China, playing an active role in fostering economic and trade exchanges between the two countries.
