President Xi Jinping chaired a crucial meeting of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee on Monday, focusing on advancing reforms and promoting ecological protection in the Yellow River Basin.

During the meeting, reports from the leading Party members’ groups of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People’s Court (SPC), and the Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP) were reviewed. The Standing Committee of the Political Bureau discussed these reports, along with the work report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.

The meeting acknowledged the significant achievements of these groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. Emphasizing the importance of action, the leading Party members’ groups were urged to prioritize implementation, unite efforts to push forward reforms, and contribute to advancing high-quality development and Chinese modernization.

The Secretariat was called upon to enhance political capability, strengthen self-governance, and effectively accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.

A key highlight of the meeting was the focus on ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. President Xi emphasized the significance of fully enforcing the Yellow River Protection Law. Efforts will be made to enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.

The meeting also stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of critical infrastructure such as dams and reservoirs. There was a call to align the Yellow River’s high-quality development with broader strategies like the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. Additionally, improving the protection of cultural heritage and promoting the integration of culture and tourism development were highlighted as essential steps.

This meeting underscores China’s commitment to environmental sustainability and its dedication to advancing comprehensive reforms for high-quality development.
