President Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a significant meeting of the CPC Political Bureau on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing reports and opinions crucial to the nation’s development and ecological initiatives.
The Political Bureau examined a report from its Standing Committee after discussing work reports from the leading Party members’ groups of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People’s Court (SPC), and the Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP). Additionally, the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee presented its work report.
Central to the meeting was the review of opinions on comprehensively promoting ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. Recognizing the accomplishments of the past year, the meeting approved the work plans for 2025 presented by the leading Party members’ groups of the five state institutions.
Emphasizing action and reform, the meeting called on these groups to prioritize effective implementation and collaboration to drive high-quality development and advance Chinese modernization in 2025. The Secretariat was urged to enhance its political capabilities, strengthen strict self-governance, and fulfill all tasks assigned by the CPC Central Committee.
The significance of ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin was highlighted. The meeting advocated for the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law and outlined key initiatives:
- Systematically enhancing water source conservation capacity in the upper reaches of the Yellow River.
- Strengthening soil and water conservation in the middle reaches.
- Advancing wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.
Efforts were urged to ensure the safety of important dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure. The meeting also emphasized aligning the Yellow River’s high-quality development with strategies for large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. Protecting cultural heritage holistically and promoting the integration of culture and tourism were also key points of discussion.
