Over a week has passed since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. As resettlement and reconstruction efforts continue, stories of resilience and community support have emerged from the affected regions.
In Cuo’ang Village, Quluo Town, Dingri County, firefighters from the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have been working tirelessly to assist villagers impacted by the quake. Beyond their duties in ensuring safety and aiding in reconstruction, these dedicated firefighters have taken on the role of community caretakers.
Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, visited Cuo’ang Village to witness firsthand the compassionate efforts of the firefighters. Amidst the aftermath of the earthquake, the firefighters prepared lunch for the villagers, bringing a sense of normalcy and warmth to those who have faced significant upheaval.
“We want to do everything we can to support the villagers during this difficult time,” said one of the firefighters. “Providing meals is just a small way we can help them regain their strength and hope.”
The shared meals have not only nourished bodies but also lifted spirits. Villagers expressed gratitude for the firefighters’ kindness, noting how these gestures have strengthened the community bond.
“Their help means a lot to us,” a resident of Cuo’ang Village shared. “It shows that we are not alone in this, and together we can rebuild our homes and lives.”
The collaborative efforts between the firefighters and the villagers exemplify the solidarity and resilience characteristic of the region. As reconstruction progresses, such acts of kindness continue to inspire and bring comfort to those affected by the earthquake.
