Massive Rare Earth Deposit Discovered in Southwest China’s Yunnan Province
The China Geological Survey (CGS) announced on Friday the discovery of a large rare earth deposit in southwest China’s Yunnan Province. The deposit boasts potential resources of 1.15 million tonnes, marking a significant advancement in China’s mineral exploration efforts.
According to the CGS, an institute under the Ministry of Natural Resources, critical rare earth elements such as praseodymium, neodymium, dysprosium, and terbium exceed 470,000 tonnes within this newly discovered deposit. These elements are essential for the development of high-tech industries.
Classified as a super-large ion-adsorption type of rare earth deposit, this find represents another major breakthrough since the first such discovery in east China’s Jiangxi Province in 1969. The CGS highlighted the importance of this discovery in strengthening China’s rare earth resource advantages and enhancing the rare earth industrial chain.
“The new discovery contains key metals for the development of high-tech industries and is of great significance,” the CGS stated. This development is expected to consolidate China’s rare earth resource advantages and improve the rare earth industrial chain.
