The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy has successfully rescued a Chinese fisherman who suddenly fell ill aboard his vessel near China’s Huangyan Dao, the Ministry of National Defense announced on Friday.
According to Wu Qian, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, a PLA Navy vessel was conducting a mission in the nearby waters when it received a distress call. The fisherman had suffered a gastric hemorrhage, a potentially life-threatening condition requiring immediate medical attention.
“Upon receiving the request for assistance, the PLA Navy vessel promptly rushed to the scene,” Wu said during a press conference. “Our personnel quickly assessed the situation and stabilized the fisherman before transferring him to a safer location.”
The fisherman was then transported by helicopter to a hospital in Sansha City, located in south China’s Hainan Province. Medical staff confirmed that he received timely treatment and has since recovered. “He has been discharged in stable condition,” Wu reported.
Wu Qian highlighted the operation as a testament to the PLA Navy’s commitment to safeguarding lives at sea. “The Chinese military is dedicated to making positive contributions to the peace and stability of the South China Sea,” he added.
This incident underscores the vital role of the PLA Navy in providing emergency assistance and ensuring the safety of those navigating the region’s waters.
