Sanyuesan Festival Showcases Zhuang Cultural Heritage in Guangxi

The Zhuang ethnic group in south China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region celebrated the annual Sanyuesan Festival with vibrant festivities that showcased their rich cultural heritage. From melodious folk songs echoing through the hills to captivating dances, the celebrations were a vivid display of traditions preserved for generations.

Listed as a national intangible cultural heritage, Sanyuesan falls on the third day of the third month in the traditional Chinese calendar. It is a time when Zhuang people come together to honor their ancestors, share delicacies, play traditional games, and strengthen community bonds.

This year’s festival not only honored age-old customs but also set the stage for future events. The region is gearing up to host the Global Mayors Dialogue · Nanning from January 15 to 18, 2025. Under the theme “Jointly Building an Amicable Home for China-ASEAN: Urban Openness and Cooperation,” the event aims to enhance economic and trade relations, boost cultural and tourism cooperation among cities, and foster a new era of interconnectedness.

The Sanyuesan Festival serves as a vibrant reminder of the Zhuang people’s cultural wealth and their commitment to preserving it. As Guangxi prepares to welcome international delegates in 2025, the festival highlights the region’s unique position as a bridge between China and ASEAN countries, promoting mutual understanding and cooperation.
