Colombo, Sri Lanka—Sri Lanka is set to emerge as a new hotspot for regional tourism and investment with the construction of a marina in Port City Colombo. Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath highlighted the significance of this development at a groundbreaking ceremony held on Friday.
Addressing dignitaries and investors, Minister Herath emphasized that Port City Colombo serves as a pivotal platform for attracting foreign investment and enhancing Sri Lanka’s international image. “The development of the marina will fill a crucial gap in high-end maritime services in South Asia,” he noted, “and will attract more high-net-worth tourists to our shores.”
Minister Herath also underscored the project’s role in fostering cultural and economic cooperation between Sri Lanka and China. “The construction of Port City Colombo will help us achieve our tourism revenue goals and strengthen ties with China,” he said.
Echoing these sentiments, Harsha Amarasekera, Chairman of the Colombo Port City Economic Commission, stated that the port city would continue to inject new impetus into Sri Lanka’s economy. “The commencement of this new project will not only create more employment opportunities but also attract international high-end brands to settle in, boosting our economic recovery,” Amarasekera explained.
Spanning an area of approximately 20,400 square meters, the marina commercial project boasts a construction area of around 49,000 square meters. The state-of-the-art facility is poised to become a focal point for maritime leisure and commerce in the region.
With this ambitious project underway, Sri Lanka is charting a course toward renewed economic growth and greater prominence on the global stage.
