Beijing, China – The Chinese Defense Ministry has issued a stern warning to Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities, stating that recent acquisitions of U.S. weaponry will not deter reunification efforts. Chinese Defense Ministry spokesperson Zhang Xiaogang declared that U.S. arms are merely “easy targets on the battlefield” and cannot “save a drowning man.”
Zhang made these remarks during a regular press conference on Thursday, following reports that the first batch of M1A2T battle tanks purchased by Taiwan from the United States had arrived on the island. The spokesperson emphasized that seeking independence by relying on U.S. support is destined to fail, and that attempts to resist reunification through force are futile.
“Several pieces of U.S. weaponry won’t be the magic straw that can save a drowning man; they are nothing but easy targets on the battlefield,” Zhang asserted. He urged the DPP authorities to recognize the reality and refrain from actions that escalate tensions across the Taiwan Strait.
Zhang also called on the United States to adhere to the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiques. He urged Washington to honor its commitment not to support “Taiwan independence,” immediately cease arming Taiwan, and stop actions that undermine peace and stability in the region.
“The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) will comprehensively improve its combat readiness, enhance its capability to fight and win, and firmly smash any ‘Taiwan independence’ separatist plot and foreign interference,” Zhang added, highlighting China’s determination to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The developments come amid heightened tensions in the region, with international observers closely monitoring the situation. The arrival of U.S. military equipment in Taiwan has been a point of contention, raising concerns over potential shifts in the delicate balance of cross-strait relations.
Analysts note that the interplay between Taiwan’s defense strategies, U.S. foreign policy, and China’s reunification objectives continues to shape the geopolitical landscape of East Asia. Business professionals, investors, and global readers are watching how these dynamics may impact economic trends and regional stability.
