Chinese Mainland Vows to Explore ‘One Country, Two Systems’ Solution for Taiwan

The Chinese mainland has reiterated its commitment to exploring a “One Country, Two Systems” solution to the Taiwan question, emphasizing that any implementation would fully consider the island’s realities and the sentiments of its residents.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, highlighted the mainland’s dedication to uniting with compatriots in Taiwan to advance peaceful reunification.

“We will actively explore the Taiwan solution,” Chen stated. “The realities in Taiwan, the views and proposals from all walks of life on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, and the interests and sentiments of Taiwan compatriots will all be fully considered.”

Chen expressed confidence that the people of Taiwan would develop a better understanding of the “One Country, Two Systems” model. “It will play its full role as compatriots on both sides work together toward peaceful reunification,” he added.

Marking the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to China, Chen reflected on the successes of the “One Country, Two Systems” policy in the region. “The great achievements of Macao since its return have proven to the world that the cause of ‘One Country, Two Systems’ has distinctive institutional strengths and strong vitality,” he said. “It is feasible, effective, and well-received by the people.”

The spokesperson’s remarks underscore the Chinese mainland’s ongoing efforts to find a peaceful resolution to cross-strait relations, emphasizing mutual understanding and cooperation.
