In a display of volleyball excellence, Italian powerhouse Imoco Volley Conegliano claimed the FIVB Club World Championship trophy, defeating Tianjin Bohai Bank in straight sets (25-21, 25-15, 25-20) in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province.
This victory marks Conegliano’s third world title in just four appearances, solidifying their dominance on the global stage. For Tianjin, the runner-up finish represents a historic achievement as the best performance by a Chinese team in the competition’s history.
The match began with Tianjin showing strong form, leading midway through the first set. However, Conegliano’s resilience and tactical prowess turned the tide, allowing them to take the set 25-21. The second set saw Tianjin struggle against Conegliano’s powerful jump serves, succumbing 25-15. Maintaining momentum, Conegliano sealed their victory with a 25-20 win in the third set.
Swedish star Isabelle Haak, Conegliano’s opposite hitter, was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament. The 25-year-old led a distinguished lineup of seven players honored as part of the symbolic “Dream Team” during the awarding ceremony. Chinese star spiker Zhu Ting and Tianjin captain Li Yingying, who contributed 12 points in the final, were both recognized as “Best Outside Hitters.”
“No matter which side wins, this final was a fantastic match,” said Zhu Ting after the game. “I think everyone did a great job. Of course, I’m happy that our Chinese team has improved so much and played an impressive match. Although the result determined the champions, I think everyone is a winner.”
The tournament showcased the growing strength of Asian volleyball teams on the international stage, highlighting the sport’s increasing popularity and competitiveness in the region.
