Tianjin Bohai Bank Makes History as First Chinese Team to Reach FIVB Women’s Club Final

Tianjin Bohai Bank has carved its name into the annals of volleyball history by becoming the first Chinese team to reach the final of the FIVB Women’s Club World Championship. In a thrilling semifinal match in Hangzhou on Saturday, Tianjin triumphed over Brazil’s Dentil Praia Clube with a 3-1 victory.

Entering the tournament with renewed confidence as the third-place finisher from the previous edition, Tianjin faced early concerns over the fitness of their captain, Li Yingying. However, after a much-needed period of rest, Li returned to the court in stellar form. Her contribution was pivotal in helping Tianjin secure an impressive five-game winning streak to conclude the regular season in the China Volleyball League.

Despite the fatigue from their domestic campaign, the team’s experience instilled a sense of resilience and determination. Throughout the group stage of the Club World Championship, Tianjin advanced without dropping a single set, bolstering team morale and strengthening the trust between the players and head coach Chen Fang.

The semifinal clash against the tenacious Dentil Praia was a test of skill and endurance. Tianjin’s sharp focus on service receptions opened up numerous scoring opportunities for skipper Li Yingying. Rising to the occasion, she delivered a match-high 32 points, with 10 of those coming in the first set alone.

Although the team’s energy dipped in the third set—allowing their Brazilian opponents to avoid a straight-set defeat—Tianjin swiftly regained composure in the fourth. Their relentless offense and solid defense left Dentil Praia with no chance for a comeback. The Chinese club clinched the match with set scores of 25-23, 25-21, 24-26, and 25-22, earning their historic place in the final.

“It’s an incredible feeling to make it to the final,” said Li Yingying after the match. “We’ve worked so hard to get here, and we’re excited to represent China on this global stage.”

Tianjin Bohai Bank’s achievement marks a significant milestone for Chinese volleyball, inspiring fans and aspiring athletes across the nation. The team now sets its sights on the championship match, where they aim to bring home the coveted title.
