Ankara — Türkiye has expressed readiness to offer support, including military training, to Syria’s new administration following the ousting of President Bashar al-Assad. Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler stated that the new leadership in Syria deserves a chance to govern, citing their constructive messages and commitment to international institutions.
“In their first statement, the new administration that toppled Assad announced that it would respect all government institutions, the United Nations, and other international organizations,” Guler told reporters in Ankara on Sunday. “We think that we need to see what the new administration will do and to give them a chance,” Guler said.
When questioned about the possibility of military cooperation with Syria’s new government, Guler highlighted Türkiye’s existing military training agreements with various countries. “Türkiye is ready to provide the necessary support if the new administration requests it,” he added.
The defense minister’s comments signal a potential shift in regional dynamics, as Türkiye positions itself to engage positively with Syria’s new leadership. Observers note that Ankara’s willingness to assist could pave the way for renewed cooperation and stability in the region.
