China has maintained high utilization rates of wind and solar power in 2024, showcasing its commitment to a green and low-carbon future. Official data released on Sunday by the National Energy Administration revealed that the utilization rates of wind and solar power remained above 95 percent this year, highlighting the efficiency of China’s renewable energy sector.
By the end of 2024, the country’s installed wind power capacity reached 510 million kilowatts, while solar power capacity stood at an impressive 840 million kilowatts. In the first seven months of the year, wind and solar power generation totaled 1.05 trillion kilowatt hours, accounting for approximately 20 percent of China’s total electricity generation.
The rapid growth of China’s new energy industry has been a significant driving force behind these numbers. Since 2013, the nation’s wind power installed capacity has grown sixfold, and solar power installed capacity has surged over 180 times. China’s annual new installations make up more than 40 percent of the global total, substantially contributing to the world’s green development.
At the national energy work conference held on Sunday, Chinese authorities pledged to enhance efforts in developing and utilizing wind and solar power. This commitment aims to promote the country’s green and low-carbon transformation, aligning with global efforts to combat climate change.
Furthermore, China announced plans to deepen international energy cooperation, particularly in green energy sectors. The country intends to actively participate in global energy governance, fostering collaboration and innovation in renewable energy technologies.
China’s sustained dedication to renewable energy not only reflects its environmental commitments but also signals significant opportunities for global investors and businesses in the green energy market. As the nation continues to expand its renewable energy capacity, it plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of sustainable development worldwide.
