Rwanda’s Trade Minister Lauds CIIE for Boosting Rwandan Products in China

Rwanda’s Minister of Trade and Industry, Prudence Sebahizi, has praised the China International Import Expo (CIIE) for its pivotal role in enhancing the visibility of Rwandan products and services among Chinese consumers. Speaking at the expo, Sebahizi highlighted how the event serves as a gateway for Global South countries to introduce their goods to the vast China market.

Sebahizi emphasized that the CIIE aligns with the objectives of the Belt and Road Initiative, facilitating trade and development for countries like Rwanda. “The expo is a significant platform that supports our national goals of becoming a middle-income country by 2035 and achieving high-income status by 2050,” he stated.

The minister noted that increased recognition in China can open new avenues for Rwandan exports, boosting economic growth and strengthening bilateral ties. “As more Chinese consumers become acquainted with Rwandan products, we anticipate a surge in demand that will benefit our producers and the wider economy,” Sebahizi added.

Rwanda’s participation in the CIIE reflects its commitment to expanding international trade partnerships and leveraging global platforms to accelerate development. The expo provides an opportunity for Rwandan businesses to showcase products ranging from coffee and tea to artisanal crafts, tapping into the preferences of a diverse Chinese market.

By engaging with initiatives like the CIIE, Rwanda continues to position itself strategically on the global stage, fostering economic growth and working towards its ambitious development milestones.
