Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei has condemned Israel’s recent airstrike on an Iranian field hospital near the Syria-Lebanon border, denouncing the attack as a “war crime.”
In a statement released on Friday, Baghaei criticized Israel for targeting the 56-bed hospital operated by the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS). The facility was destroyed along with its medical equipment and aid supplies.
“Israel’s frequent strikes on hospitals and rescue centers in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria are a clear sign of its insurgence against all international regulations and norms,” Baghaei stated.
Pirhossein Kolivand, President of the IRCS, also denounced the airstrike as a “clear violation of international humanitarian law that prohibits attacks against rescue and medical centers.” He noted that the hospital was clearly marked with the IRCS flag, according to the official news agency IRNA.
During a meeting in Doha with Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani on Thursday, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi emphasized that Israel’s “warmongering” is the main cause of insecurity and instability in West Asia.
Araghchi called for an end to what he described as “genocide” and the destruction of infrastructure in Lebanon and Gaza, as reported by the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
The Qatari foreign minister expressed the need for regional cooperation to stop the Israeli “crimes,” promote stability, and support the Palestinian and Lebanese people.
The destruction of the field hospital adds to escalating tensions in the region, raising concerns over the safety of medical and humanitarian facilities amidst ongoing conflicts.
