Chinese President Xi Jinping and other top leaders paid tribute to the nation’s fallen heroes on Monday at a solemn ceremony in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square. The event marked China’s 11th Martyrs’ Day, observed annually on September 30, the eve of the National Day.
Over 2,400 participants, including veterans, families of martyrs, and representatives from various walks of life, gathered at the Monument to the People’s Heroes. They came to honor those who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of the Chinese people and the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949.
The ceremony commenced with the singing of the national anthem, followed by a moment of silent tribute. Schoolchildren wearing white shirts and red scarves performed a heartfelt chorus, symbolizing the passing of the torch to the younger generation. In a poignant gesture, honor guards laid nine flower baskets before the monument, each adorned with ribbons bearing the words “Eternal Glory to the People’s Heroes.”
