The World Trade Organization’s Deputy Director-General Johanna Hill lauded China’s significant advancements in digital services exports during her address on Saturday at the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) 2024.
Hill highlighted that China’s digital services exports nearly tripled between 2015 and 2023, a growth rate that surpasses other regions globally. “China’s impressive growth in digital services is a testament to its commitment to innovation and integration into the global digital economy,” she stated.
She also commended the Chinese mainland’s efforts to further open up key sectors, including banking and telecommunications. “The further opening of these sectors not only benefits China but also contributes to the global economy,” Hill added.
Moreover, Hill acknowledged China’s active role in international initiatives that promote trade in services and e-commerce. “China’s participation in global initiatives is essential for fostering a more inclusive and connected world economy,” she remarked.
The comments came during CIFTIS 2024, one of the world’s largest fairs dedicated to trade in services, where global leaders and industry experts gather to discuss trends and opportunities in the services sector.
