Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has announced China’s readiness to collaborate with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in a concerted effort to combat cross-border online gambling and telecom fraud.
During a meeting with diplomatic envoys from the ten ASEAN countries in Beijing on Thursday, Wang Yi emphasized the seriousness of recent incidents along the Thailand-Myanmar border. He noted that a series of vicious online gambling and telecom fraud cases have posed significant threats and harm to the citizens of China and other nations in the region.
Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, expressed China’s commitment to addressing these challenges. “China stands ready to work with ASEAN countries to crack down on cross-border online gambling and telecom fraud,” he stated, highlighting the need for joint efforts to safeguard the lives and property of the people.
He urged the relevant countries to take responsibility and implement strong measures against these illicit activities. “We hope that the countries concerned will take responsibility and take strong measures to resolutely crack down on online gambling and telecom fraud,” Wang Yi said, calling for a united front to address these threats.
The meeting underscores China’s engagement with ASEAN in enhancing regional security and cooperation. The collaboration aims to tackle transnational crimes that exploit technological advancements, ensuring a safer environment for all nations involved.
