Magnitude-6.9 Earthquake Strikes Kyushu, Tsunami Advisory in Effect

A powerful magnitude-6.9 earthquake struck the Kyushu region in southwestern Japan on Monday, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA). The strong tremor occurred in Miyazaki Prefecture, registering an intensity of lower 5 on Japan’s seismic scale of 0 to 7 in the hardest-hit areas.

In response to the earthquake, the JMA has issued a tsunami advisory for the coastal areas of Miyazaki and Kochi prefectures. Residents in these regions are advised to stay vigilant and follow any instructions from local authorities.

The significant magnitude and intensity of the quake have raised concerns among the local population. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely, and further updates will be provided as assessments continue.
