Chinese President Xi Jinping has emphasized the critical role of high-quality audit-based oversight in safeguarding China’s economic and social development. In a recent instruction on audit work, Xi underscored auditing as an essential component of the Party and the nation’s oversight systems.
“Audit authorities have played a positive role in promoting the healthy development of the economy, ensuring national economic security, revealing risks and potential dangers, and advancing the fight against corruption,” Xi remarked.
He highlighted the importance of the centralized and unified leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee in audit work. Xi called on audit authorities to focus on their primary responsibilities, deepen reform and innovation, and strengthen self-improvement. He advocated for building a centralized and unified audit oversight system that is comprehensive, authoritative, and efficient.
Xi’s instructions were conveyed by Wu Zhenglong, state councilor and secretary-general of the State Council, at the national audit work conference held in Beijing over the weekend.
The conference also recognized excellence within the sector, honoring 80 audit institutions and 45 individuals for their outstanding performance.
