With less than a month remaining before the Asian Winter Games commence in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, hosts China have unveiled the official uniforms for the medal award ceremonies. The reveal took place on Thursday during a vibrant runway show featuring Olympic freestyle skiing aerials champion Xu Mengtao among other athletes.
The uniforms embody a design theme described by designers as “snow and ice romance,” showcasing an underlaid red snowflake pattern intended to convey the athletes’ determination and passion. The blend of traditional Chinese elements with modern athletic wear aims to celebrate the spirit of the games and the cultural heritage of the host nation.
Innovation lies at the heart of the uniforms’ creation. The indoor attire incorporates China’s first self-developed high-performance waterproof and moisture-permeable material, ensuring that athletes remain warm and comfortable during the ceremonies. For outdoor settings, the uniforms feature a body microclimate adjustment system, enabling the garments to store and conduct heat effectively, adapting to the cold winter conditions.
“These clothes use waterproof and moisture-permeable material, offering professional performance in windproofing, waterproofing, and quick drying,” said short track speed skater Liu Guanyi. “This design is amazing. We athletes like it very much, and I really want to be able to show it on the podium at the Asian Winter Games.”
The Asian Winter Games in Harbin are set to bring together athletes from across the continent, highlighting the growing prominence of winter sports in Asia. China’s commitment to integrating advanced technology with cultural aesthetics in the uniforms reflects the nation’s dedication to providing a memorable experience for participants and audiences alike.
