Xi Jinping and Duma Boko Celebrate 50 Years of China-Botswana Diplomatic Ties

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Botswanan President Duma Boko exchanged warm congratulations on Monday, marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Botswana.

President Xi noted that over the past half-century, despite changes in the international landscape, China-Botswana relations have maintained steady growth. He emphasized that the two nations have become good friends, treating each other with equality, and good partners, progressing hand in hand.

Xi expressed his firm belief that as long as both countries adhere to sincere friendship, solidarity, and cooperation, the development path of China-Botswana relations will continue to expand, and the prospects for bilateral cooperation will become even brighter.

Looking ahead, Xi highlighted that 2025 marks the opening year for implementing the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). He expressed readiness to work with President Boko to further strengthen mutual political trust, resolutely support each other’s major concerns, jointly advance their modernization drives, and open a new chapter in the China-Botswana strategic partnership.

President Boko hailed the 50th anniversary as an important milestone in Botswana-China relations. He expressed sincere gratitude to China for the profound friendship, solidarity, and cooperation over the past five decades.

Boko stated that Botswana has been deeply inspired by China’s remarkable development achievements. He believes that the strategic partnership between the two countries will bring opportunities for Botswana’s inclusive development.

Affirming Botswana’s firm support for the one-China policy, Boko expressed his expectation to further strengthen relations based on mutual trust and respect. He looks forward to jointly implementing the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the FOCAC to achieve common development and prosperity.
