China Sends $1 Million in Emergency Aid to Vanuatu After Powerful Earthquake

China has extended a helping hand to Vanuatu by providing $1 million in emergency aid to support disaster response and post-disaster reconstruction efforts. The announcement was made on Monday by the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA).

Li Ming, spokesperson for CIDCA, stated that China has coordinated with local Chinese company experts to conduct preliminary disaster assessments. In addition, a medical team has been dispatched to assist in relief efforts on the ground.

The Red Cross Society of China has also contributed to the aid efforts by donating $100,000 in emergency cash assistance to Vanuatu, according to Li.

“Moving forward, China is willing to continue offering further assistance as needed by Vanuatu to help the country overcome its difficulties and rebuild as soon as possible,” Li said.

Vanuatu was recently struck by a powerful earthquake in its capital, Port Vila, on December 17, 2024, causing significant damage and affecting many residents. China’s swift response underscores the strengthening ties between the two nations and highlights China’s commitment to international humanitarian aid.
