President Xi Meets Macao’s New Leadership Team

Chinese President Xi Jinping met with the newly appointed officials of the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) on Friday. The meeting marked a significant step in Macao’s governance as the SAR ushers in a new era of leadership.

President Xi acknowledged the youthful energy and high morale of the sixth-term Macao SAR government’s governance team. Expressing his confidence in their capabilities, he urged them to remember their oath and fulfill their mission with a strong sense of responsibility. “Be accountable to both the country and Macao,” Xi encouraged, “and deliver outstanding results that will make the nation, Macao, and yourselves proud.”

During the meeting, President Xi laid out his expectations for the new team. He emphasized the importance of keeping in mind the country’s fundamental interests and Macao’s overall prosperity. “Firmly safeguard national sovereignty, security, and development interests,” he advised.

Xi called upon the officials to approach their duties with diligence and a heightened sense of duty. He highlighted the need to promote appropriate economic diversification, foster a more favorable business environment, and maintain stability and harmony within Macao. “Do solid work with a greater sense of responsibility,” he stated.

Addressing the leadership dynamics, President Xi emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation within the team led by the SAR’s Chief Executive. He encouraged strengthened cross-domain and inter-departmental coordination to enhance governance efficiency. “Enhance unity and cooperation to improve governance,” Xi urged.

Integrity and commitment to public service were also key points in Xi’s address. He stressed the need for officials to maintain integrity and honesty, always keeping the livelihood of Macao residents at the forefront. “Use power prudently and serve as upright officials who bring benefits to the people,” he advised.

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Cai Qi and Xia Baolong. Macao SAR Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng was also present, signifying the unity and coordinated effort between the SAR’s leadership and the central government.
