Chinese President Xi Jinping met with representatives from all walks of life in the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) on Thursday afternoon. The meeting underscored the central government’s commitment to Macao’s prosperity and stability as the region approaches the 25th anniversary of its return to China.
During the meeting, President Xi expressed his appreciation for the contributions made by the people of Macao. He commended their efforts in fostering economic growth, social harmony, and cultural richness in the SAR. Xi encouraged the representatives to continue their united efforts to achieve even greater accomplishments for Macao’s future.
President Xi also held discussions with heads of central government offices and major mainland-funded companies operating in Macao. The dialogues aimed to strengthen cooperation and ensure the sustained development of Macao’s economy, particularly in areas integrating with national development strategies.
Senior officials, including Cai Qi, were present at the meetings, highlighting the significance of these engagements. Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Ho Hau Wah, Macao SAR Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng, incoming Macao SAR Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai, and former Chief Executive of Macao SAR Chui Sai On also attended, reflecting a united front in Macao’s leadership.
On Friday, President Xi will attend a gathering celebrating the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to China and the inauguration ceremony of the sixth-term government of Macao SAR. The events mark a significant milestone, celebrating Macao’s achievements and looking forward to its future under the “one country, two systems” framework.
