Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Macao on Wednesday afternoon to attend the celebrations marking the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to China.
President Xi, who is also the general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, will participate in a gathering commemorating this significant milestone. He will attend the inauguration ceremony of the sixth-term government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).
During his stay, President Xi will conduct an inspection tour in the Macao SAR, engaging with local officials and communities to assess the region’s progress and development since its return to China in 1999.
The visit underscores the central government’s support for Macao’s ongoing growth and its integration into the broader national development agenda. The celebrations are expected to highlight Macao’s achievements over the past 25 years, including its economic diversification efforts and contributions to the Greater Bay Area.
Macao returned to China on December 20, 1999, and has since operated under the “one country, two systems” principle, allowing it to maintain its own economic and administrative systems while being part of China.
