Exclusive: Nepali PM Oli Praises China’s Vision and Belt and Road Initiative

Nepal’s Prime Minister K. P. Sharma Oli has lauded China’s visionary leadership and its Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), during an exclusive interview with CMG’s Zou Yun in Beijing. Oli, on a four-day official visit to China from December 2 to 5, highlighted the strengthening ties between Nepal and China, following nearly 70 years of diplomatic relations.

“The establishment of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 1921 was the most important turning point in Chinese history,” Oli remarked, commending President Xi Jinping for his exceptional vision and statecraft. He emphasized that China’s rapid development under the CPC’s leadership has been transformative, not only for China but for the region and the world.

During his visit, Nepal and China signed a nine-point agreement focused on enhancing connectivity, industrial development, infrastructure, trade, and tourism. Oli expressed optimism about the strategic partnership of cooperation between the two nations, which was elevated during President Xi’s state visit to Nepal in 2019.

Highlighting the significance of the Belt and Road Initiative, Oli stated, “Its goal is to share prosperity and support other countries that are left behind. It is part of a community of shared future for mankind.” He affirmed Nepal’s commitment to collaborating with China on BRI projects, aiming to boost economic growth and development in the region.

Prime Minister Oli’s visit underscores the deepening cooperation between Nepal and China, reflecting a mutual desire to enhance bilateral relations and contribute to regional stability and prosperity.
