China-U.S. Economic Working Group Holds Seventh Meeting in Johannesburg

In a significant move to bolster economic cooperation, the China-U.S. economic working group held its seventh meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa, China’s Ministry of Finance (MOF) announced on Monday.

The meeting was co-chaired by China’s Vice Minister of Finance Liao Min and U.S. Under Secretary of the Treasury Jay Shambaugh. The two sides engaged in candid, in-depth, and constructive discussions on a range of critical issues.

Key topics included the macroeconomic situations and policies in both countries, collaborative efforts to assist low-income nations in addressing liquidity challenges, and the governance and reform of multilateral development banks. These discussions reflect a mutual commitment to addressing global economic challenges amid an increasingly complex international landscape.

The Chinese delegation clarified its position on relevant economic and trade matters, expressing concern over recent U.S. trade and economic restrictions against China. They emphasized the importance of open dialogue and cooperation to resolve these issues constructively.

This meeting signifies ongoing efforts by the world’s two largest economies to navigate their differences and find common ground. By maintaining open channels of communication, both nations aim to contribute positively to global economic stability and growth.
