President Xi Jinping has reaffirmed the central authorities’ full support for Hong Kong in aligning with national strategies and fostering new economic momentum. Meeting with John Lee, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), in Beijing on Friday, Xi emphasized the importance of innovation and creativity in propelling the region’s prosperity.
During the meeting, Lee reported on Hong Kong’s current situation and the HKSAR government’s work over the past year. Xi praised Lee’s leadership, acknowledging the significant progress made in economic development, housing, healthcare, and external cooperation. He highlighted the completion of historic legislation under Article 23 of the HKSAR Basic Law and the strengthening of Hong Kong’s international prestige.
“Noting that Hong Kong faces new development opportunities, the central authorities will fully, firmly, and accurately implement the ‘One Country, Two Systems’ policy,” Xi stated. He expressed confidence in Lee’s ability to unite and lead all sectors of society in pursuing reform and progress.
