China and Russia Call for Political Resolution of Ukraine Crisis

In a significant move towards fostering global peace, China and Russia have jointly called for a political resolution to the Ukraine crisis. The appeal was made during a meeting in Beijing on Thursday between Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chinese president, and Dmitry Medvedev, chairman of the United Russia party.

Xi Jinping highlighted the robust achievements in China-Russia relations over the past 75 years. He emphasized that the two nations have pioneered a path of mutual respect, harmonious coexistence, and win-win cooperation as major neighbors. “China is ready to deepen the alignment of development strategies with Russia, further explore cooperation potential, and bring more tangible benefits to our peoples,” Xi stated.

The Chinese president also called for enhanced collaboration within multilateral frameworks, including the United Nations, BRICS, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. He underscored the importance of upholding the UN-centered international system, practicing genuine multilateralism, and promoting a fairer and more equitable international order.

Recognizing the longstanding partnership between the CPC and the United Russia party, Xi urged both parties to strengthen coordination and cooperation. He stressed the need to guide global governance in the right direction and foster greater consensus among political parties worldwide, particularly in Global South countries, to drive global development toward a positive trajectory.

Addressing the Ukraine crisis, Xi reiterated China’s consistent stance, emphasizing three key principles: avoiding spillover effects, preventing escalation, and refraining from actions that further fuel the conflict. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to facilitating de-escalation and creating conditions for a political resolution.

Dmitry Medvedev delivered a personal letter from Russian President Vladimir Putin to Xi Jinping, expressing strong support for the robust relationship between the two countries. Medvedev pledged Russia’s commitment to implementing the consensus reached by the two leaders and advancing strategic cooperation. He also emphasized the United Russia party’s dedication to deepening cooperation with the CPC.

Medvedev commended China’s position on the Ukraine crisis, acknowledging the “Friends of Peace” group initiative proposed by China, Brazil, and other countries. He expressed Russia’s willingness to actively support efforts for a political resolution to the Ukraine crisis.

The meeting underscores the shared commitment of China and Russia to collaborate on global challenges and promote stability in the international community. Their joint appeal for a political solution to the Ukraine crisis reflects a mutual desire to foster peace and prevent further escalation.
