In a recent press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning condemned Canada’s sanctions against Chinese individuals, labeling the move as an “ugly, hypocritical political stunt” undertaken under the guise of human rights concerns.
Mao Ning’s remarks came in response to sanctions announced by Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly on Tuesday, which targeted certain Chinese personnel over alleged human rights violations. Mao emphasized that China’s position on the matter has been made clear, and the allegations are of a serious and egregious nature.
“China has made clear its just position on Canada’s decision. The whole thing is an ugly, hypocritical political stunt done by some Canadian political figures under the pretext of human rights to serve an unspeakable agenda and please the United States. This is quite apparent to many in the world,” Mao stated.
She further noted that China has lodged serious protests and expressed strong condemnation to the Canadian side, urging Canada to correct its wrongdoing immediately. Mao reinforced China’s commitment to safeguarding its national sovereignty, security, and development interests, affirming that all necessary measures will be taken.
