Xi Jinping’s Discourses on People’s Congress System Published in New Compilation

A comprehensive compilation of discourses by Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, on upholding and improving the system of people’s congresses has been published by the Central Party Literature Press and is now available nationwide.

Compiled by the Institute of Party History and Literature of the CPC Central Committee, the book features a collection of 37 significant works by Xi spanning from December 2012 to October 2024. Notably, some of these works are being made public for the first time, offering readers unprecedented insights into Xi’s perspectives on China’s legislative system.

Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC in 2012, the CPC Central Committee, with Xi Jinping at its core, has comprehensively strengthened the Party’s leadership over the work of people’s congresses and vigorously promoted whole-process people’s democracy. This approach emphasizes the importance of involving citizens in every aspect of democratic governance, from decision-making to implementation and oversight.

Xi Jinping has integrated the fundamental principles of Marxism with China’s specific realities and rich traditional culture. He has systematically summarized the practical experiences of the CPC in strengthening socialist democracy, continuously advancing theoretical and practical innovations of the system of people’s congresses. Xi has put forward a series of new thoughts, ideas, and requirements, providing fundamental guidance for upholding, improving, and effectively operating the system of people’s congresses.

The publication of this compilation is expected to serve as a valuable resource for scholars, policymakers, and anyone interested in understanding the evolution of China’s legislative system and its role in shaping the nation’s governance.
