South Korean President Yoon to Address Nation Amid Impeachment Vote

South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol is scheduled to deliver a televised address to the nation at 10 a.m. local time (0100 GMT) on Saturday. The announcement comes as the country braces for a pivotal impeachment motion vote against him later in the day.

The opposition parties, which hold a significant majority of 192 seats in the 300-member National Assembly, have slated the impeachment vote for 5:00 p.m. local time (0800 GMT). To pass the motion, a two-thirds majority is required, meaning at least eight votes from the ruling party would need to favor the impeachment.

The political climate in Seoul has grown increasingly tense following President Yoon’s declaration of emergency martial law on Tuesday night. The measure was repealed early Wednesday after the parliament voted against it, further intensifying debates over his leadership.

As the nation anticipates President Yoon’s address, citizens and international observers alike are watching closely. The outcome of the impeachment vote could lead to significant shifts in South Korea’s political landscape, affecting not only domestic policies but also regional relations in Asia.
