Beijing Hosts Meeting to Boost Cross-Strait Economic and Cultural Exchanges

In a significant move to enhance economic and cultural ties across the Taiwan Strait, a work meeting was convened in Beijing on Tuesday. The gathering aimed to promote integrated development and foster peaceful relations between both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

Officials from the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), and various central Party and state departments participated in the meeting. Representatives from southeast China’s Fujian Province were also in attendance, highlighting the province’s pivotal role in cross-strait relations.

Song Tao, head of the Taiwan Work Office of the CPC Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, emphasized the importance of implementing the spirit of General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping’s recent instructions during his inspection tour to Fujian in October. “We must take greater strides in blazing a new trail for integrated cross-strait development,” Song noted, underscoring the need to clarify goals and directions for this endeavor.

Song called for efforts to promote high-quality development of a demonstration zone for integrated development across the Taiwan Strait. He urged all parties to advance peaceful and integrated cross-strait relations and contribute to the great cause of national reunification.

Zhao Chenxin, deputy head of the NDRC, expressed support for Fujian in exploring new paths for integration. “We should ensure the implementation of policies for the construction of a demonstration zone and achieve new successes,” Zhao stated, highlighting the strategic importance of Fujian in cross-strait development.

Luo Dongchuan, deputy secretary of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee, and Wang Yongli, vice governor of Fujian, provided insights into the construction of the demonstration zone. They expressed Fujian’s commitment to building a model for social, economic, and emotional integration across the Taiwan Strait. “We aim to establish a new pattern of comprehensive integration and development,” they affirmed, reiterating their dedication to national reunification.
