The 12th National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities of China concluded on Saturday evening in Sanya, south China\u2019s Hainan Province, marking the end of a vibrant celebration of cultural diversity and athletic prowess.
During the closing ceremony at the Sanya Sports Center, flags representing the 35 participating delegations filled the stadium as Chinese State Councilor Shen Yiqin declared the Games officially closed. The stadium flame was then extinguished, symbolizing the end of the nine-day event.
Gao Zhidan, director of China\u2019s General Administration of Sport, praised the athletes, stating, “Athletes from 35 delegations competed on the same stage, demonstrating not only their strength and skill but also a profound emotional and spiritual connection.” He extended gratitude to the athletes, staff, volunteers, and media who contributed to the Games.
“The Games allowed us to share the fruitful achievements of ethnic unity and progress, as well as the advancement of national fitness. Let us reunite in Hunan in 2027,” Gao added, highlighting the spirit of unity and anticipation for the next event.
A total of 6,960 athletes participated in the Games, competing in 18 sports and three demonstration sports over the nine days. The event showcased the rich cultural heritage and traditional sports of China\u2019s diverse ethnic groups.
In a symbolic handover ceremony, the official Games flag was passed to Li Jianzhong, vice governor of Hunan Province, the next host of the Games. An eight-minute performance by the Hunan delegation offered a glimpse of what to expect in 2027.
The 13th National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities will take place in Hunan Province in 2027, promising to continue the celebration of ethnic harmony, cultural traditions, and athletic excellence.
