Sanya Gala Celebrates China’s Cultural Diversity at National Ethnic Games
A vibrant gala celebrating China’s 12th National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities was held at the picturesque Tianya Haijiao Park in Sanya, south China’s Hainan Province, showcasing the nation’s rich tapestry of cultural diversity and unity.
CGTN Sports Scene’s Mike Fox, alongside Hainan TV host Liao Zhu, experienced the event firsthand, immersing themselves in the lively atmosphere. The gala featured five distinct zones of performance and exhibition, each highlighting themes such as singing, dancing, and intangible cultural heritage, among other unique aspects of various ethnic groups.
Visitors from across the country were welcomed into two interactive areas, fostering cultural exchange and engagement. Along Sanya’s beautiful coastline, a long line of exhibitions presented nearly 40 themes representing different ethnic groups. This display offered tourists and athletes participating in the Games an opportunity to explore and enjoy the unique characteristics of Hainan and other regions of China in a contemporary and engaging manner.
On Tuesday, the Games paused for half a day to allow participants and visitors to partake in recreational activities at the gala. The festive environment saw visitors exchanging gifts and joining together in singing and dancing, embodying the spirit of unity and cultural appreciation that the event aimed to promote.
The gala not only served as a highlight of the National Ethnic Games but also as a vibrant platform for celebrating the harmonious coexistence of China’s diverse ethnic communities, strengthening bonds, and promoting mutual understanding through shared traditions and festivities.
