Beijing Unveils Initiative to Enhance Global Supply Chain Cooperation at CISCE

Beijing, October 2023 — At the opening ceremony of the second China International Supply Chain Expo (CISCE) on Tuesday, Beijing released a groundbreaking initiative aimed at promoting stable and smooth global supply chains. The Beijing Initiative for International Cooperation on Industrial and Supply Chains outlines a comprehensive plan to foster international collaboration and innovation across key sectors.

The initiative focuses on five major aspects:

  • Promoting Open Cooperation: Advocating for true multilateralism, the initiative calls for enhanced trade and investment liberalization, opposing protectionism, and strengthening international industrial specialization and collaboration. This approach aims to foster integrated industrial development and deepen supply and demand integration to maintain stable and unimpeded industrial and supply chains.
  • Advancing Digital Connectivity: Keeping pace with technological and industrial advancements, the initiative encourages better integration of the real economy with the digital economy. It promotes the transfer and application of digital technologies, tapping into the potential of the digital economy and cross-border e-commerce, and supports the industrial application of artificial intelligence.
  • Boosting Green and Low-Carbon Development: Emphasizing sustainable practices, the initiative advocates for green transformation within industrial and supply chains, encouraging the adoption of environmentally friendly technologies and processes.
  • Improving Industrial and Supply Chain Services: The initiative underscores the importance of accelerating the development of international logistics systems. It urges governments to enhance cooperation in port and transportation logistics, expand multimodal transport networks, and advance the digitalization and green transformation of logistics to build intelligent logistics networks.
  • Harnessing the Role of the Business Community: It encourages the global business community to leverage platforms like CISCE to deepen practical cooperation, build common understanding, and foster mutual trust among nations.

“We advocate for practicing true multilateralism, enhancing trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, opposing protectionism, and enhancing international industrial specialization and collaboration,” the initiative stated, emphasizing the commitment to a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization.

The second CISCE, the world’s first national-level exhibition focused on supply chains, runs from Tuesday to Saturday in Beijing. Under the theme “Connecting the World for a Shared Future,” this year’s expo emphasizes the interconnected nature of the supply chain through its innovative booth layout and exhibition zones. It offers a comprehensive showcase of key processes across the entire supply chain, from upstream to downstream, providing a platform for business matchmaking and investment opportunities across diverse industries.

The initiative and the expo collectively highlight China’s dedication to fostering international cooperation, enhancing global supply chain resilience, and driving sustainable economic growth.
