Wang Yi: China Ready to Work with Luxembourg for Strengthened China-EU Ties

Beijing, October 10 – Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has reaffirmed China's commitment to working closely with Luxembourg to foster sustainable and sound development of China-European Union (EU) relations. During a meeting on Monday with Xavier Bettel, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Luxembourg, Wang Yi emphasized the importance of the bilateral partnership.

"China regards Luxembourg as an important partner," Wang Yi stated, highlighting that the two nations have enjoyed long-term and steady development since establishing diplomatic ties over 50 years ago. "We are ready to consolidate mutual political trust, enhance complementarity, and create new growth points for green development cooperation," he added.

Recognizing Luxembourg's positive and practical policy toward China, Wang Yi expressed China's willingness to increase people-to-people exchanges and push for further progress in bilateral relations. He underscored the potential for collaboration in various sectors, aiming to build on the strong foundation of their longstanding relationship.

As the 50th anniversary of China-EU diplomatic relations approaches next year, Wang Yi reiterated that China and the EU are partners, not rivals. "We hope the EU will uphold its strategic autonomy," he stated, emphasizing the significance of a cooperative and independent EU stance in fostering mutual growth and understanding.

The meeting between Wang Yi and Xavier Bettel reflects China's ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with EU member states. By enhancing cooperation with Luxembourg, China aims to contribute positively to the broader China-EU relationship, promoting stability and prosperity in the region.
