Global Experts Praise President Xi’s Vision for Global Development at G20 Summit

Global experts have lauded Chinese President Xi Jinping’s recent speeches at the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, highlighting his commitment to global development and cooperation. At the summit’s first session, President Xi unveiled China’s eight major actions to bolster global development, emphasizing the need for building bridges of cooperation over erecting barriers.

“It’s vital to support modernization in developing nations and foster a just world of common development,” President Xi stated, calling for an end to “small yard, high fences” that hinder collaborative progress.

During the second session, he presented a five-point proposal aimed at enhancing global governance, stressing the importance of international consensus to promote a multipolar world and inclusive economic globalization.

Commitment to Poverty Alleviation and Cooperation

Sourabh Gupta, a senior fellow at the Washington-based Institute for China-America Studies, praised President Xi’s emphasis on cooperation over isolation. “The idea of building more bridges for cooperation is essential and should be preserved and defended,” Gupta remarked. “It’s easy to prioritize poverty alleviation, but providing resources effectively is challenging. China has demonstrated success in this area.”

Wirun Phichaiwongphakdee, director of the Thailand-China Research Center of the Belt and Road Initiative, highlighted the significance of China’s eight major actions. “President Xi’s announcement showcases the extraordinary courage and responsibility of a great nation’s leader,” he said. “The Belt and Road Initiative has brought unprecedented connectivity, embodying China’s concrete practices in promoting common development.”

Supporting Africa’s Development

President Xi reaffirmed China’s dedication to supporting Africa’s development, including a funding commitment of 360 billion yuan for partnership actions on the continent’s modernization efforts. Mohammed Al-Bishi, acting editor-in-chief of Saudi Arabia’s Aleqtisadiah newspaper, noted, “President Xi’s speeches once again demonstrate China’s commitment to helping poorer countries and people. When China commits to something, it encourages other countries to follow suit.”

Dr. Matthew L. Bishop, Senior Lecturer in International Politics at the University of Sheffield, emphasized the importance of China’s sustained engagement with African nations. “These investment relationships are significant for supporting China’s transformation and positively impacting local economies in Africa,” he explained.

Concrete Benefits and Shared Modernization

Xu Feibiao, director of the Center for BRICS and G20 Studies at the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, observed that the eight major actions would bring tangible benefits to Africa. “Apart from financial and technological support, China is helping promote modernization by sharing its experiences and embarking on this journey alongside Africa,” Xu commented.

Wang Yiwei, professor at the School of International Studies at Renmin University of China, underscored China’s role in amplifying Africa’s voice on the international stage. “President Xi’s speeches show that China stands with Africa in its development efforts,” Wang stated. “Highlighting Africa at the G20 summit refocuses global attention on the continent’s potential, transforming perceptions from backwardness to one of hope.”

Advancing Global Governance and Multilateralism

Experts agree that President Xi’s proposals aim to enhance global governance by promoting equality and inclusivity. By advocating for a multipolar world and economic globalization that benefits all, China is positioning itself as a leader in fostering international collaboration and addressing shared challenges.
