Chancay Port: A New Era for Peru-Asia Trade

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Peruvian President Dina Boluarte have jointly inaugurated the Chancay Port, marking a significant milestone in South America’s infrastructure development.

Constructed by the Chinese state-owned company Cosco Shipping, Chancay Port stands as South America’s largest and most modern port facility. The port is expected to revolutionize trade by significantly reducing shipping times between Peru and Asia, enhancing economic ties and boosting commerce.

Experts anticipate that the new port will transform Peru’s trade dynamics. By providing a direct and efficient maritime link to Asian markets, Peruvian exporters can expand their reach, and investors can explore new opportunities. The port is also expected to stimulate local economies, create jobs, and contribute to infrastructure development in the region.

APEC Policy Support Unit chief Carlos Kuriyama highlighted the strategic importance of Chancay Port, emphasizing how its operations could enhance Peru’s position in global trade networks and strengthen economic cooperation with Asia.

The inauguration of Chancay Port symbolizes a deepening partnership between Peru and China. As the port begins operations, it is poised to become a critical hub for international trade, fostering growth and connectivity across continents.
