China-Peru Free Trade Agreement Boosts Job Growth, Says Peruvian Exporter

The China-Peru Free Trade Agreement (FTA), signed in 2009, has significantly boosted employment opportunities in Peru, particularly in the formal sector, according to Julio Perez Alvan, president of the Peruvian Association of Exporters.

Speaking on the impact of the bilateral trade agreement, Perez Alvan emphasized that the FTA has been instrumental in creating new jobs for Peruvians, fostering economic growth, and strengthening trade ties between the two nations. “The China-Peru Free Trade Agreement has opened doors for our products and has been a catalyst for job creation, especially in formal employment,” he said.

With the growth in exports to China, Peruvian businesses have seen increased demand for their goods, leading to expansion and the need for more workforce. Sectors such as agriculture, mining, and manufacturing have particularly benefited from the enhanced access to the Chinese market.

Perez Alvan expressed optimism about the future of Peru’s trade relationship with China. He hopes to see a wider variety of Peruvian products exported to China, further diversifying the country’s export portfolio and bringing more benefits to local producers and the economy. “We are eager to introduce more of Peru’s rich array of products to the Chinese market,” he added.

The strengthening of economic cooperation between Peru and China not only contributes to job creation but also enhances cultural and social ties, fostering a mutually beneficial partnership in the global arena.
