Jannik Sinner is on an unstoppable run at the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Finals in Turin. The Italian sensation has tightened his grip on the World No. 1 ranking, remaining unbeaten this week without dropping a single set. His home fans in Italy are reveling in his success, and the atmosphere couldn’t be more electric.
On Thursday, both Sinner and US Open runner-up Taylor Fritz secured their spots in the semifinals of the prestigious season-ending tournament that features the top eight male players in the sport. Sinner clinched his place at the top of the round-robin group with a commanding 6-3, 6-4 victory over 2020 champion Daniil Medvedev.
Despite having already guaranteed his advancement to the last four before facing the Russian opponent, Sinner extended his winning streak to nine matches. The Italian has been in exceptional form, having defeated home favorite Fritz in the US Open final in September to claim his second Grand Slam title.
“I hope this match gives me confidence for the semifinals, where I’m hoping to raise the level,” Sinner said after his victory. “But honestly, I’m happy with the level I’m playing at right now.”
Meanwhile, Medvedev concluded the tournament with one win out of three matches, while Australia’s Alex de Minaur, who failed to secure a victory, was also eliminated from the competition.
