Beijing Ducks Overcome Liaoning Flying Leopards in CBA Club Cup Showdown

The Beijing Ducks showcased their prowess in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) Club Cup on Wednesday, defeating the Liaoning Flying Leopards 90-78 in Qingdao. Anunwa Omot led the charge with a game-high 20 points, securing the Ducks’ second consecutive win in Group D.

In a highly anticipated matchup, the three-time defending league champions Liaoning faced off against this season’s top team, Beijing. This encounter marked the first meeting between these powerhouses this season and also the first clash between Liaoning’s coach Yang Ming and Beijing’s new coach Xu Limin. Despite missing several key players, including national team members and last season’s Finals MVP Kyle Fogg, the Flying Leopards started strong, with veteran center Han Dejun scoring their opening six points.

The Ducks, who entered the game with a 9-1 record in league play and an opening win over hosts Qingdao, quickly rallied. By halftime, Beijing had built a 13-point lead, demonstrating depth and resilience. Han Dejun, at 37 years old, continued to impress, going five-for-five from the field for 10 points after the break. Liaoning’s young talents, Li Huyi and Zhang Junhao, contributed significantly, narrowing the deficit to single digits.

However, Beijing’s balanced attack proved too strong. Five players scored in double figures, with Omot’s impressive performance leading the way. In the fourth quarter, the Ducks pulled away, sealing the victory. Omot expressed his enthusiasm about facing the reigning champions, highlighting the competitive spirit of the match.

The win keeps Beijing atop Group D with a perfect record, while Liaoning finds themselves at the bottom. This rivalry is set to continue as both teams look ahead to future league play. Earlier in the day, hosts Qingdao defeated Nanjing 89-80, leaving both teams with one win and one loss. The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage of the CBA Club Cup, with the champions to be crowned in February.
