Beijing, China – In a significant move to bolster regional stability, China and Russia have pledged to enhance their strategic coordination. Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, met with Nikolai Patrushev, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, on Tuesday in Beijing. The two officials jointly hosted the 19th round of the annual China-Russia strategic security consultation.
The discussions were centered on major strategic security issues of common concern. Both sides agreed to strengthen collaboration to safeguard their national development and rejuvenation efforts, aiming to jointly promote global security and stability.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Russia. Wang Yi highlighted that under the strong leadership of their respective heads of state, the bilateral relationship has withstood the test of a changing international landscape, maintaining a healthy and stable momentum. He emphasized that the cooperation between China and Russia serves the interests of both peoples and contributes significantly to promoting solidarity and cooperation among countries in the Global South.
The strategic security consultation mechanism between China and Russia is expected to take the implementation of the consensus reached by the two heads of state as its fundamental guideline, Wang Yi noted. The mechanism plays a crucial role in fostering a new model of major-country relations based on lasting good-neighborliness and comprehensive strategic coordination.
The meeting underscored the commitment of both nations to deepen political mutual trust, solidify practical cooperation, and shoulder the responsibility of serving the interests of their peoples.
