Xi Jinping Congratulates Sun Yat-sen University on Centennial Anniversary

Chinese President Xi Jinping has extended heartfelt congratulations to Sun Yat-sen University on its centennial anniversary. In a letter addressed to the university’s faculty, students, and alumni worldwide, Xi expressed his hopes for the institution to align its development with major national strategies and contribute significantly to China’s modernization efforts.

Xi Jinping, who is also the general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, emphasized the importance of the university’s role in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area development. He urged the university to strive towards becoming a world-class institution with Chinese characteristics.

The letter was read aloud during a grand gathering held in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, on Tuesday to commemorate the university’s 100th anniversary. Huang Kunming, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, delivered a speech reaffirming the province’s commitment to supporting the university’s future endeavors.

Founded in 1924 by Sun Yat-sen, the revered pioneer of China’s democratic revolution, the university has a storied legacy of cultivating talent across various fields. Over the past century, it has nurtured more than 800,000 professionals, playing a vital role in the nation’s development.

Sun Yat-sen, the university’s namesake, led the 1911 Revolution, which ended over 2,000 years of imperial rule in China. His vision and dedication to national rejuvenation continue to inspire the institution’s mission and values.

As Sun Yat-sen University embarks on its second century, Xi’s message serves as a powerful encouragement for the university community to pursue excellence and innovation, contributing to the progress of the nation and the well-being of its people.
