Cross-Strait Art Festival Celebrates Chinese Characters in Taiwan Region

The 2024 Cross-Strait Chinese Character Culture & Art Festival opened on Saturday in Taoyuan, China’s Taiwan region, showcasing a vibrant fusion of traditional art forms centered around Chinese characters. The festival features calligraphy and seal-carving artworks by 200 prominent artists from both the Chinese mainland and Taiwan, highlighting the shared cultural heritage across the Taiwan Strait.

Running until December 3, the event also presents an exhibit of innovative creations focused on Chinese characters and hosts an art carnival featuring performances by 18 calligraphy and seal-carving groups. These activities celebrate the enduring charm of Chinese characters and aim to engage attendees in the rich traditions of Chinese culture.

Liu Chao-shiuan, chairman of the Foundation of Chinese Culture for Sustainable Development, emphasized the festival’s significance in fostering cross-strait cultural ties. In his opening remarks, he stated, “Chinese characters are a symbol and carrier of the culture shared by the two sides of the strait. By using them as a bridge, we hope to unleash the dynamics of traditional culture in artistic exchanges.”

The festival not only serves as a feast of artistry but also as a valuable opportunity for the two sides of the Taiwan Strait to collaborate on cultural preservation and promote people-to-people exchanges. It underscores the importance of cultural connections in enhancing mutual understanding and cooperation between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan region.
